MOUNTAIN BIKE TRAILS
Bring your own bike or rent one - we have a trail for any level. Dirtopia is well known for the construction of sweet singletrack... The Delvera mountain bike trails are the first step in creating quality mountain bike tourism products in the Western Cape. R40 for a permit per person and a cup of coffee at Dirtopia Café on Delvera is included (R20 for kids under 10). This includes VAT. Permit sales also in aid of the Greater Simonsberg Conservancy.
The Porcupine Trail....offers trail riders over 6km of challenging singletrack trails. This blue intermediate route is roughly 15km long and takes riders up the slopes of the Klapmuts Hill and into the Greater Simonsberg Conservancy. This is one of the Cape's premier singletrack destinations. Built and maintained by the same crew that is responsible for the Tokai, Lebanon, Thandi & Jonkershoek trails. Another 3km black trail option for advanced riders.
The more sedate Farm Trail is 7km and perfect for beginners. Enough climbing for a rewarding view. This route follows the Green signs.
Super technical elevated wooden trails with several dirt optons in between. Over 100 meters of elevated trails! The trails and Dirt lines between the trees offers a perfect hideaway from the wind and sun in summer.
Dirtopia can facilitate various options according to your needs. Delvera has the facilities for a fun day or we can even do a mountain bike event at any venue you prefer - especially for your company and/or clients. Dirtopia's Meurant Botha has more than 10 years of Trail Construction experience and can help you develop a trail system for your farm or event.
The Delvera Vineyard Trail takes hikers into a registered conservancy. All trails start from the Dirtopia Trail Centre and permits are R40 for adults (incl. free cup of coffee from Simonsberg Cafe) and R20 for kids (under 10) per day. 25% of permit sales in aid of the Greater Simonsberg Conservancy. The hiking trail is open daily from 8am-5pm although an honesty box is available for access outside of these hours. Please see our events calendar and info on the Full Moon & Sunset Hikes.
Delvera Vineyard Trail
The Delvera Vineyard Trail is 9.75km long and takes roughly 2.5 hours to complete. The hike summits Klapmutskop at 523m and offers panoramic views of the Winelands and Cape Town.
The 6km Vineyard Walk remains in the vineyards and take 1.5 hours to complete. You'll enjoy beautiful views of the Winelands and get a closer look at the various red and white wine cultivars. Interpretive signage will help you distinguish between Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc!
For bird enthuasiasts the 1.25km Bird Walk is a must. The Delvera dam hosts a wide range of ducks, geese, weavers, pheasants and many more.
And yes, you can come and do trail running for exercise here too!
Greater Simonsberg Conservancy
The Conservancy was formed by surrounding farmers in 2004 to protect the rare Renosterveld (Rhino field) vegetation type
The region boasts with a wide range of raptors with resident Jackal Buzzards a daily sighting. Keen birders will recognise the distinctive cry of the African Fish Eagle on one of their frequent visits to the farm.
Fairly new in South Africa, Nordic Walking is about to take off as it did all over the world. Nordic Walking poles to rent from Trail Centre and lessons can be given on appointment. Arina Botha is a qualified INWA instructor since Dec'05. Lessons including pole hire & permit cost R180 for first hour.
Beware: Big difference between normal hiking/walking sticks and real nordic Walking poles!
Simonsberg trails / Knorhoek Valley trails permits are available at either on of our Trail Centres that are open every day from 08h00. Or from Muratie & Delheim restaurants from 09h00. You can arrange to buy your permits the day before at our offices. For more information CLICK HERE
