Sunset to Full Moon hike at Muratie

Experience a memorable evening hike at Muratie with Dirtopia! But make sure you book online for this popular event that Dirtopia has been managing for more than 20 years.

 Bring a picnic and take in breathtaking views while enjoying a glass of Muratie's award-winning wine. After sunset, the adventure continues as you hike back through the forest by the light of the full moon, with your headlamp guiding the way.

 This circular trail, designed by Meurant Botha, starts at the Dirtopia Trail Centre on Muratie Farm. where you'll also collect your permit upon arrival. The hiking trail leads to a scenic viewpoint offering spectacular vistas of the Winelands, Simonsberg as back-drop and Table Mountain in the distance. The well-marked singletrack trail, featuring over 200 steps, is approximately 3.5 km in total and takes about 45 minutes to reach the picnic spot. To ensure the full experience, please arrive no later than 19h00. The return walk to the Trail Centre will take approximately 20-30 minutes, depending on your pace.

 On the mountain above the cellar, a look-out point has been cleared earlier in the year, where Dirtopia team sets up a wine station for the event. This is the perfect spot to enjoy your picnic, while watching the sunset towards Cape Town and moonrise over Simonsberg. Wines from Muratie available here include the Dry Rose, aand a blended white and red wine per glass or per bottle and/or lady Alice MCC per bottle.

 At the trailhead of Dirtopia Trail Centre, there are snacks and drinks available for purchase, and a coffee station will be open here until approximately 21:00.

Important Times:

• Arrival: From 18:00 (latest arrival by 19:00 to start the hike)
• Latest time to begin descent: 20h15
• Return to Trail Centre: Between 20h15 and 20h45, depending on your pace

Cost:
R125 per person | R60 for children under 10 (includes permit for after-hours access to the marked route)

What to Bring:

• A warm layer for after dark
• A torch/headlamp
• A blanket to sit on
• Good walking/hiking shoes (the trail includes over 200 wooden steps and varied terrain)
